The tech world is buzzing again with the launch of the Nothing Phone CMF 2 Pro. After the success of the original CMF 1, which targeted self customization (replacement of back case and accessory additions), fans of the brand have been eager to see what Nothing has in store next.
Fans are curious to find out, “if the CMF 2 Pro really worth the upgrade?“
Let’s break it down and see what’s new, what’s improved, and whether it’s worth your money.
A Quick Look at the CMF Series
CMF is Nothing’s budget-friendly line of products that focuses on self customization, unique and clean design, simple software, and powerful hardware at a reasonable price. The CMF 1 surprised many as it got it focus right — and for its price, it was a great deal.
Now comes the CMF 2 Pro, and it’s aiming to push things a little further without breaking the bank.
Design- A Familiar but Refined Look
The first thing you’ll notice with the CMF 2 Pro is that it still follows the clean, minimal design language Nothing is known for. It is slimmer than CMF 1 and has replaceable back panel. However, the build feels more premium and looks better, thanks to improved materials and a slightly more solid finish.
While the overall shape is similar to the CMF 1, the edges are smoother, and the phone feels better in hand. Nothing has also added new color options, which give the CMF 2 Pro a fresh touch.
Verdict: Not a huge design leap, but enough improvements to notice if someone focuses on the design of phone.
Display- Nearly similar
The CMF 1 came with a decent 6.67” inches Super AMOLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate. The CMF 2 Pro, nearly offers the same numbers with just a bit of better brightness, colors and overall resolution.
Whether you’re watching videos, browsing Instagram, or playing games, the new will, a little bit, feel more premium and immersive.
Verdict: Not a huge difference again, however CMF 2 Pro is slightly an upgrade.
Performance- Not much of the change
The CMF 1 came with MediaTek Dimensity 7300 5G that was great for daily tasks and even causal gaming. While CMF 2 Pro is powered by a bit faster Dimensity 7300 pro chip.
Verdict: A nearly not noticeable performance boost.
Camera- A full tripple camera setup
The CMF 1 had an average camera setup with 50MP main Sony sensor (f/1.8 aperture) and a 2MP portrait sensor. The CMF 2 Pro brings 50MP Main camera, 50MP telephoto camera, 8MP ultra wide camera. Fron camera is still 16MP which is same in both the phones.
Photos are now clearer, colors are more natural, and low-light shots are more usable. The front camera also gets a small boost for sharper selfies and better video calls.
Verdict: Not flagship-level, but a solid improvement over CMF 1 for casual photography.
Battery Life- Same but charger in the box
Both CMF phones come with 5000mAh batteries, which are great for a full day of use. And, both the phone supports 33W charging but CMF Phone 2 pro brings charger in the Box.
Verdict: Battery life is same, but charger in the Box makes it a great option for the new buyers.
Software- Newer and Long term support
One thing Nothing continues to do well is keeping the software clean and smooth. The CMF 2 Pro comes with Android 15 out of the box, with Nothing OS 3.2 on top, and no bloatware at all.
It also promises six years of security patches.
Verdict: Software experience of CMF phone 2 pro will be better as compared to CMF Phone 1. And, the support will be long term.
Pricing- Not much of the difference
The CMF 2 Pro is priced quite similar to the CMF 1.
The pricing for the CMF Phone 2 Pro in India starts at ₹18,999 for the base variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. The 8 GB and 128 GB variant of the CMF 1 is ₹17,999.
Final Verdict- Should you upgrade?
The upgrade is worth it if:
- You want a bit polished design.
- Proper Tripple Camera Setup.
- Charger in the box
- You want latest software for longer.
However, if you have CMF 1 and it is still running fine and you should not upgrade as the difference is not much other than the camera.
